Welcome to the barista@home website

As much as we'd all like to have a cafè in our own kitchen, life's not quite that sweet. That's why we've created barista@home. It's as close to a real cafè coffee as you can get without having to leave the house.

We are passionate about all things coffee, from the bean to the cup. With hints on getting the perfect extraction, the right grind, or tips on the art of steaming milk, this is the site for you.

The best coffee you can get at your place

barista@home coffee packs, Forte, Ultimo and Nero

Forte

Forte is roasted with a healthy dose of intrigue. Maybe it's the silky smooth caramel flavours that give it that special something or maybe it's the hint of dark berries.
Available in: Beans & Espresso Grind

Ultimo

Ultimo will leave you with a smooth, golden afterglow - a result of sweet, nutty, dark cocoa flavours and a spicy finish.
Available in: Beans, Espresso Grind & Plunger

Nero

Nero has a nutty, malty, dark chocolatey flavour which makes it our strongest, most swashbuckling blend.
Available in: Espresso Beans

Getting the best from our coffee

HOW SHOULD I STORE MY COFFEE?

coffe beans

Oxygen, moisture, heat and light are the enemies of fresh coffee. Exposure to these elements will cause your coffee to taint or become stale. Always store your coffee in an airtight container in a cool, dark place - but not in your fridge or freezer.

If you grind your own beans, only grind what you need to make a coffee. Ground coffee that isn't stored properly will go stale.

WHAT DOES THE VALVE ON THE PACKET DO?

The function of the one-way Aroma Fresh valve on the packs is to let carbon dioxide out and prevent oxygen from entering the pack. When whole coffee beans are roasted, carbon dioxide is released. This continues to be released from the beans, so to be packed as soon as possible after roasting without the packet swelling and bursting, a value is utilised to ensure optimum freshness.

HOW IMPORTANT IS THE GRIND OF MY COFFEE?

Grind choice is extremely important - if you use the wrong one you'll end up with watery coffee or a cup full of grits and grinds.

Espresso grind coffee is extremely fine and is designed to have the water passed through under pressure in a matter of 20-30 seconds.

A plunger grind is coarse and designed to brew for 2-3 minutes. The coarse grind also means that when you plunge the coffee the water can freely pass through the coffee.

This Month's Events

Rhythm and Vines

29th September

Set in Gisborne the small coastal town that is first to greet the sun each day, Rhythm and Vines has become New Zealand's number one summer destination. The region comes alive as holiday makers flock to the coast to escape city lives and responsibilities, all whilst losing themselves in a world class festival experience. The show, which now takes place over three days, continues to be held at the spectacular venue that is Waiohika Estate. This fully functional vineyard features permanent event facilities and amenities nestled within the rolling hills.

Like a fine wine the Rhythm and Vines experience continues to get better with age. Now celebrating its 7th year the festival continues to deliver a mind-blowing, Kiwiana summer experience. All this at the first and best place in the world to celebrate the new year!
